Tarot for Climate Change and Eco Grief is a 5 class series taught by Corinna Rosella (Milk Thistle, Tarot School for Liberation, rise up! good witch, etc.) and Adriene Jenik (ECOTarot, end-of-life doula, PhD student in sustainability) focusing on both interpreting the tarot through a lens of social justice, equity and living in the sixth mass extinction, and as a practitioner training for “reading climate futures” with the ECOTarot.
The ECOTarot is a deck developed by artist and activist Adriene Jenik, based on the traditional Marseilles deck, made with natural pigments and plant-based paper- was designed to read for individuals and communities living in and fighting against the current climate catastrophe.

This class series aims to provide students a vital and enriching perspective on the tarot through a climate science and social justice lens, and equips students to give Climate Future readings in their own communities. It is for both professional and amateur tarot readers interested in broadening their practice.

Week 1: (11/4) Introductions / Classic Tarot archetypes applied to Climate Change and Eco Grief
Class and individual introductions, guidelines and logistics, applying themes of climate change and eco grief to the traditional Pamela Coleman Smith imagery of tarot with Corinna
Week 2: (11/11) Why Eco Tarot? The Development of the Deck & an overview of the Major Arcana
In this class Adriene will discuss the making of the ECOtarot deck and her experience reading peoples’ “climate futures” in public and private settings. Utilizing the 22 major arcana cards as ecological archetypes, we discuss human climate disruption, its effect on our lives and culture. Traditional tarot knowledge is incorporated as participants join in interpretative exercises.
Week 3 (11/18) Exploring the Minor arcana thru Climate Science, Numerology and Astrology
In this class, the minor arcana and court cards are introduced. Layers of astrology and numerology are revealed in interpretations, as we welcome climate science into our interpretations. Participants are asked to bring a short list (3-5) ecological heroes/heroines for consideration when connecting with the court cards of the ECOtarot offering an opportunity to further evolve the practice to reflect their knowledge.
Week 4 (11/25) Learning and Practicing Spreads
In this class, we consider the structure of ECOtarot readings, and Adriene introduces and walks participants through several custom spreads she has developed specifically for “climate futures” readings. There is an opportunity to practice offering short readings in pairs and small groups.
Week 5 (12/2) Advanced spreads, bringing your practice into the world
Adriene introduces her spiral 8-card spread that she offers to people in the ecological field (she has performed these readings with environmental activists, educators, conservation scientists, a national park leader and an Indigenous healer). Corinna and Adriene offer considerations when designing spreads and participants are granted more supervised practice time, and an opportunity to access continued apprenticing.
All classes take place on zoom and will be recorded for those who can’t attend
All participants can join a Discord community for connecting with classmates and teachers between workshops, sharing homework and reflections and for keeping in touch after the class is over
